‘Not married, no rings’: Indian actor Sushmita Sen breaks silence on relationship with IPL founder Lalit Modi

Days after rumours surfaced about her new beau, Indian actor Sushmita Sen has broken her silence on dating Lalit Modi, the founder of the IPL who had announced that they both are in a relationship. The actor has now taken to Instagram and cleared the air by stating she’s not “married” with “no rings” and is in a happy place.

On Thursday, Modi had taken to Twitter and shared photos with Sen, announcing that he is dating her. He took everyone by surprise as he made the revelation with series of photos of him and the Main Hoon Na actor and called her his “better looking partner”.

In another tweet, the businessman clarified that he is not married to Sen and said they are simply dating right now. “That too it will happen one day,” he wrote.

His posts sent netizens and the Indian media into a frenzy, especially since Sen had not announced news herself and it followed a very public breakup with model Rohman Shawl. Taking to Instagram on Friday, the winner of Miss Universe 1994 shared a photo with her daughters and wrote, “I am in a happy place! NOT MARRIED…NO RINGS…Unconditionally surrounded by love. Enough clarification given, now back to life & work.”

She also thanked everyone for sharing her happiness and for those who don’t “it’s NOYB [None of Your Business]”.

Her post received comments from her fans who longed for her response as well as model and Bigg Boss contestant Gauahar Khan who sent her “blessings” for Sen.

The Biwi No.1 star was very open about her relationship with Shawl, which she made Insta official in 2018. They parted ways in 2021. Since then, Sen has been mum about her personal affairs on social media and has kept her life more private.

After sensational trial, Johnny Depp releases an album

Fresh off his highly publicised, controversial defamation suit, actor Johnny Depp sought to show his creative career was back on track, releasing an album with English rocker Jeff Beck on Friday.

The 13-track album 18, on which Depp sings and plays guitar, features mainly covers, and so far it has been critically panned.

It’s a record unlikely to figure prominently in the repertoire of Beck, the 78-year-old former member of The Yardbirds.

The album includes renditions of Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ and John Lennon’s ‘Isolation’, as well as the Velvet Underground classic, ‘Venus In Furs’.

The choice to include a song focused on sado-masochism might seem bizarre to some, given the ultra-mediatised trial centred on alleged domestic abuse between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, the actor best known for her role in Aquaman.

The album includes a song the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star penned himself, ‘This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr’.

“Erased by the same world that made her a star / Spun out of beauty, trapped by its web,” Depp sings of Lamarr, who secluded herself in the final years of her life.

British singer Adele planning documentary that will discuss her new relationship and Las Vegas residency.

With good music and a lot of memes, 2022 has been a comeback year for British singer Adele. The next target for the singer is a documentary that will be a juicy tell-all about her budding romance with sports agent Rich Paul.

A source confirmed to The Sun that this film will be her “most insightful work yet” as it will cover both her life with Paul as well as the sudden halt of her Las Vegas residency for which she faced heavy backlash.

“Adele feels she let fans down somewhat with how the past 12 months have panned out, particularly the last-minute postponement of her Las Vegas residency, and sees [making a documentary] as a way of making up for that,” the source said.

The documentary is expected to be an intimate peek into her life offstage, excluding all the drama.

They added, “One thing is for certain, it will be must-watch TV. Even though everyone knows her name, Adele is still quite mysterious as a person. Her life now compared to when she released her debut album is unrecognisable.”

The documentary might play a part in bringing Adele back into the limelight and everyone’s good graces after she postponed the residency after deeming it “not good enough.” In an interview with BBC Radio 4 she had said that despite the backlash leaving her “a shell of a person for a couple of months,” postponing was the right choice to make.

“I was devastated and I was frightened about letting them down, and I thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision. You can’t buy me, you can’t buy me for nothing. I’m not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we’re going to lose loads of money,” the ‘Easy On Me’ singer had said.

She called the fan reaction “brutal” in the same radio interview. Earlier this month she had her first public event in five years in the form of a concert where she confirmed to the crowd that the rearranged dates for Las Vegas will be announced “very, very soon”.

Hareem Farooq tests positive for Covid, asks followers to take precautions this Eid

Covid has been on the rise again and the most recent person to fall prey to it is Hareem Farooq. The actor tested positive despite being vaccinated, after dodging it “successfully” for two years.

On Friday, she took to her Instagram stories to share the news with her followers. Farooq mentioned that luckily, she hadn’t come in contact with a lot of people the day her symptoms started showing. “My symptoms were really bad and the past few days have been horrible — the fever and the body aches are unbearable,” she wrote, adding that she will be spending her Eid in isolation.

After she shared her plans of following the safety protocol, she requested her followers to remember her in their prayers.

Farooq also urged them to take precautions this Eid for their loved ones’ sake. “Better to have a safe Eid than a sorry Eid,” she concluded and sent them her love.

On Tuesday, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) issued new guidelines for people to practice this Eidul Azha to curb the resurgence of Covid-19 in the country. They stated that Eid prayers should be organised in open spaces “under stringent Covid protocols”.

The NCOC further instructed people to refrain from shaking hands and hugging each other — as per the Eid ritual — to avoid the chances of contracting the disease. As for the qurbani [sacrifice] itself, the guidelines recommended people to opt for “central and collective *qurbani”,* while adhering to Covid-19 SOPs.

The trailer for Yaara Vey is out with a love triangle between Sami Khan, Aleeze Nasser and Faizan Khawaja

The much-awaited film Yaara Vey finally dropped its trailer and by the looks of it, the story revolves around a love triangle that draws parallels between a safe and predictable love and an exciting yet uncertain one.

Beeline Productions released the trailer on Saturday and introduced the plot in the caption, “Triangles are always messy and the one between the disciplined Sania, the gentle Armaan and the maverick Samir was more than [what] she bargained for.

“Sania’s journey from Dubai to Thailand to Georgia and back again changed her in ways she couldn’t have imagined. But life had yet another curveball to throw her way, one that threatened everything she knew to be true.”

The official trailer zoomed in on each of the three characters in the triangle to highlight their personality traits. It featured conflict, romance and staple dance numbers for viewers to vibe along to — all of which is accompanied by some very scenic backdrops.

The two and a half-minute long trailer ends at a dialogue by Sania (played by Aleeze Nasser) that projects her confusion in the situation she’s in, “It feels like I am constantly running without a direction.”

Yaara Vey is a film that promises to bring something new to the mix, abandoning the trend of relying on comedy to make a movie work. It has been shot at different locations but promises to be more than a prettily shot feature — the actors claim it’s a good project with great cinematography and an even better team. The movie is set to release across the world, with the exception of India.

Directed by Manish Pawar, the movie’s cast includes Sami Khan, Nasser, Faizan Khwaja, Jawed Shaikh, Marina Khan and Ali Sikander. It has been produced by Beeline Productions in Dubai and shot in Thailand.

Yaara Vey will release in cinemas on September 16 after facing years of delay. Originally the film was supposed to release in 2020.

‘He feels seen’: Filmmaker Asim Abbasi’s 8-year-old feels like the hero of his own world thanks to Ms Marvel

Ms Marvel has done a clean sweep where our hearts are concerned and Asim Abbasi’s eight-year-old son seems as enamoured with the show as we are. The filmmaker shared how the show has impacted his son and what the “power of storytelling” can do.

Abbasi shared a still from the show featuring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel and Nimra Bucha as Najma clutching at the magical bangle on Kamala’s wrist and wrote, “What a glorious summer it’s been for groundbreaking Pakistani content and artists.

“Been watching Ms Marvel with my eight-year -old who has never before been into superhero stuff. But he is devouring this show, sharing details of it with his grandparents and his friends at school, making maps and drawings of partition and train stations, and leaving voice notes to Nimra (‘you creep me out, Najma!’).”

The Churails director said his son feels represented, like he is the main character of his own story. “He feels seen. And that is the power of storytelling. It lies in the emotional, cathartic connect and representation in which you are not just the ‘other’, the sidekick, the comic in someone else’s world. Where you are the hero of your own world.”

To those who had a lot to pick out and pinpoint in the show he said, “So critique if you want to, but also, please rejoice for this is huge. (The burden of some full and final representation is too great for one show and a handful of artists to ever bear).”

The Cake director also gave a shoutout to the team. “Kudos to Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Nimra Bucha, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat and everyone else from around the globe who has been instrumental in bringing Ms Marvel to us!”

He addressed the people who are “lucky enough to be in Pakistan” and asked them to go catch it in the cinemas.

The show is a coming-of-age story of 16-year-old Kamala, a Pakistani-American teen who lives in Jersey City. Kamala is an aspiring artist, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe. She is also a huge fan of the Avengers — and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world — that is until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.

The six-episode mini-series is helmed by Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Obaid-Chinoy, Meera Menon, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The first episode dropped on June 8 and a new episode has been released every Wednesday. Marvel Studios has also been releasing Ms Marvel exclusively in cinemas in Pakistan.

The cast also includes Pakistani actors Khan, Hayat, Bucha and Indian actor Farhan Akhtar.

Natasha Noorani dedicates ‘Faltu Pyar’ to all women settling for mediocre boys

Natasha Noorani recently dropped ‘Faltu Pyar’ and the catchy single was instant ear-candy. The singer went behind the scenes to talk about how the song came about and dedicated it to all women settling for less, telling them it’s not worth it.

On Tuesday, Spotify Pakistan shared a clip of Noorani talking about her latest song in collaboration with Hasan Raheem and Talal Qureshi.

“Pro-tip: If you’re tired of your situationship, we have a song for you,” they captioned the video.

The ‘Choro’ singer said the singers had great chemistry right off the bat. “The creative process was really fun because Talal, Hasan and I just got into a room and decided to make lots of music. And we were just kind of riffing off each other — Hasan was coming up with guitar parts, I was coming up with synth parts and Talal was doing what Talal does best which is make killer beats and so it was just a lot of synergy that was really really fun.”

Noorani said the lyrics are “a fun take” on a breakup situation where the girl has simply had enough and the relationship is over. “It’s a really fun kind of space to explore female agency in that situation. So the lyrics are a fun take on that,” she added.

The ‘Trace’ singer concluded by dedicating the song to “all the young women who are settling for mediocre boys — it’s not worth it, don’t do it,” she said.

‘Faltu Pyar’ was released on June 12 and features Raheem and Noorani’s vocals with a reggaeton-ish beat and latin guitar samples. The song won over fans early on and garnered a great response.
